        Head of Logistics         (In-House)

About the job: 

​Our client is looking to set up a new warehouse facility. They are keen to appoint the Head of Logistics as soon as possible, so that he or she may then recruit the rest of the management team. The team will eventually grow to around 150 people on site. 

​

The facility will process a range of items, some of which high value and specialised, and will lend itself to becoming automated over time.

As well as this, the Head of Logistics will oversee outsourced transport operations.

​

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a strong grasp of the benefits of automation and constructively both challenge and develop the business case for it, and may also have experience in strong inventory control and regulations.

​

They are looking for someone who can demonstrate a balance of resilience, drive and ambition, coupled with excellent leadership and people skills to drive results. The Head of Logistics will assume full responsibility from start-up to steady state.

Principal Accountabilities 

The successful applicant will:

  • have full operational and P&L accountability for the logistics operations

  • lead the team to meet the client's service level requirements and fulfilment targets

  • develop and execute the stockholding strategy

  • exercise overall management of the day-to-day operations of the new facility

  • lead the commercial on operational relationships with the 3PL Providers

  • support and promote a process of continuous improvement in the logistics operation

  • provide appropriate KPIs and other management information on the performance of the logistics operation

  • also be responsible for inbound and outbound distribution activity

  • partner with other business functions and act as an ambassador of the site to existing customers and new business prospects

Competencies and Experience

  • At least 3 years' experience Head of Logistics or General Manager within a fast-moving retail or production operation

  • Commercially and operationally focused

  • Experience of being accountable for site regulatory compliance ensuring processes are maintained in line with expectations

  • Management of and understanding of complex returns operations

  • Track record of forming and leading a team

  • Good communicator, capable of delivering messages to a wide range of colleagues from site operatives to Senior PLC management 

  • Approachable and engaging to all colleagues

  • Able to manage operations through direct reports

  • Management of 3rd party transport operators

  • Start-up experience, including with automation implementations

  • Experience of project management and managing change within a large team or organisation

  • Passionate about implementing and managing change within a large team or organisation

  • A proven track record of substantial stakeholder management 

  • Strong IT skills, including extensive WMS experience that includes implementation

  • Strong communication skills

  • Excellent internal and external relationships. Be the person the customer trusts

  • £75,000 to £90,000 basic, with up to 40% bonus
