About the job:
Our client is a third-party logistics company (3PL). They receive orders throughout the 24 hour cycle and plan collections from customer, producer and manufacturer locations, for same day consolidation and delivery to retailer regional distribution centres (RDCs).
The client is looking for somebody to be responsible for leading the transport operations team and drivers.
This role is key in ensuring that the operation continues through the shift. New orders come in throughout the 24-hour cycle, and routes must be planned and resourced continuously. This is done through company and third-party resources (subcontractors).
The successful candidate will manage vehicle utilisation and ensure drivers are given and follow clear instructions.
The principal aim of the role is to ensure that all service levels are met cost effectively and within the constraints of the driver’s hours and Health and Safety regulations.
This role is ideal for someone who loves problem-solving in a dynamic environment, whilst executing the plan through a team.
Principal Accountabilities

To ensure that all elements of the job are communicated effectively to all personnel especially drivers and sub-contractors.

To ensure that people under your control work within a safe environment and follow drivers hours regulations when driving

To develop close liaison with fellow team members and management to discuss efficiencies and agreed operational practises.

To assist in the control of equipment ensuring that customer requirements are met and recorded.

To monitor the performance of deliveries to and at retailers
-
To liaise with customers regarding present or future developments

To support and if necessary cover the Operations Manager in meetings or customer reviews

To ensure that all vehicle and trailer services are completed on time
-
To ensure Enterprise completed daily and all trips fully resourced on a daily basis

To undertake additional tasks/duties as may be required by management from time to time

To make appropriate changes to the plan based on changes within the operation
Key Performance Measures

Profit and loss cost management

Delivery-On-Time (DOT) for major customers

Utilisation of company and third party assets

Completion of daily & weekly tasks

Effectiveness of Driver Instruction
Competencies
-
Be experienced in managing aspects of an FMCG transport operation, including dynamic planning, driver management and vehicle management

Demonstrate good communication skills, both written and oral

Maintain a high focus on customer service and satisfaction

Be a good team player. The role requires integrating as a key member of the team. You will have to build relationships with the following people and departments:

General Manager; Operations Managers; Other team members within the Operations Department; Operations Support Manager; Customers; On Site Warehouse / Site Team; LGV Drivers; Subcontractors; HR & Payroll

Hold an attention to detail on completing and finishing roles, particularly administration and handover

CPC accreditation is an advantage
Location and hours
-
Office based at the client's site in Sittingbourne, supporting a small team, within a larger team in a large open plan office

Core working hours over day and night shifts, with a degree of flexibility is required in order to meet the demands of the business
