About the job:

​

Our client is setting up a new warehouse facility. Reporting to the General Manager they are keen to start to appoint Shift Operations Managers (SOM) as soon as possible. The team will eventually grow to around 150 people on site.

The facility will process a range of items, some of which high value and specialised, and will lend itself to becoming automated over time.

​The SOM will take accountability for the running of the ‘bonded’ central processing unit (CPU), whilst on shift. The successful candidate will lead their shift team ensuring that operational, service and KPIs are met.

Ideally, the SOM will have start-up and/or automation experience with the ability to recruit and train teams to deliver the brand new operation.

 

Principal Accountabilities

  • Finance and KPI

  • Lead the shift to meet agreed operational KPI targets such as productivity, SLA’s, stock accuracy, absence and Health & Safety

  • Prepare shift resource plans to support operational budget resource, process and handover requirements

  • Regulation

  • Working with all peers and colleagues, ensure a robust security plan is delivered on site at all times meeting the regulatory expectations

  • Working with the security and inventory managers, ensure robust operational processes are in place to meet HMRC requirements for a bonded facility

  • Planning and Processes

  • Ensure all shifts are planned within budget parameters and these are reviewed and adjusted depending on department performance and volume changes

  • Support the senior team at the CPU in analysing performance trends to identify risks and opportunities within the operation

  • Attend daily operational review meetings, updating colleagues with accurate, relevant information to enable the CPU to meet its business targets.

Competencies

  • At least 3 years' experience leading a team in an FMCG operation

  • Approachable and engaging to all colleagues

  • Demonstrates high aptitude in: people management, adaptability and change management

  • Places emphasis on regulatory compliance

  • Good communicator, capable of delivering messages to a wide range of colleagues

  • Start-up experience, including implementation of automated solutions
